Those of you who have already completed a resume building course may be tempted to skip this section (though I hope you won't!), but for everyone else, this is one of the most significant modifications you can make to your present job search strategy.
You will receive interviews if your resume is fascinating, engaging, and highly targeted to your ideal companies and opportunities. That's all there is to it.
I frequently receive emails from individuals praising me,
but I'm not telling you this to brag. I wanted you to get a taste of what it's
like to solve the resume conundrum and create a document that actually connects
with employers.
If you want to achieve that kind of response from your
resume, you should abandon the standard career history paper and instead
produce a highly targeted and captivating piece as part of your resume building process. I have a simple three-step process for this.
1.
Focus on Your Target Employers
You can now dive further and determine what is significant
to people who hire for these positions because you have already specified the
type of position you want and the type of firm you want to work for. If you're
aiming for Apple, for example, you'll need an entrepreneurial spirit and a
creative attitude. Additionally, depending on the role, they will be searching
for specific talents and experiences; consider what they are and write a list.
2.
Focus on what makes you valuable
"You're not a cookie cutter," says the headline on
our main page. That strikes a chord because it's true: you're unlike everyone
else looking for work in your field right now. No one has the same collection
of abilities, experiences, or personality attributes as you, yet I bet I
wouldn't know it if I looked at your resume, because most resumes just don't
communicate who you are. Now it's up to you to figure out what your distinctive
value is to your target employers, based on what you already know about their
requirements.
3.
Create a document that matches the
two
Now edit your resume to show how you'd be a good fit for
your target employers. What abilities do you possess that they require? What
personality traits do they value the most? Which of your personal experiences
best illustrates how you could assist them? It's critical to maintain a
laser-like focus — if you've done something amazing in the past but it has
nothing to do with what you want to do today, leave it out. I know it's
difficult, but staying focused is essential for success.
