How to ask for more money: The right way!

According to research, about half of employees have never asked their boss for a raise. Why is it so difficult to agree on a salary? You can make your resume for the job on resume builder.

It could be due to our cultural aversion to discussing money. According to a PayScale survey, 28% of respondents who had never negotiated a wage stated they were hesitant to ask for more. Almost a fifth of those polled indicated they didn't want to be seen as pushy.

However, requesting what you deserve does not have to be pushy. There is a proper technique to bargain for a salary. Here's how to make a request for more.

Remember that you are negotiating partners

Negotiating a beginning salary or asking for a raise can feel confrontational. Your boss or recruiting manager, on the other hand, is not your adversary. You have the same goal in mind: to be compensated fairly for your skills or experience.

Do your research

The range for salary depends from employer to employer. But it is advisable to know a reasonable salary for the job.

You can use free salary calculators from Glassdoor, PayScale and salary.com. This will help you find ranges for your job title. Make sure you are not forgetting to add the skills and certificates wherever applicable.

Rely on the data and not on emotions. Salary negotiation is a serious task and should be done keeping in mind the right technique.

Prepare for Biasness

In a paralleled world only your skills and qualifications would have only mattered. But in this world, everyone is biased and so can be your employer.

In practice, this may mean that depending on who you are, you will have to negotiate differently. Women, for example, incur a larger social cost for negotiating and are typically viewed as more demanding and less "kind" when they ask for more, according to a study.

That isn't to say that if you're likely to be affected by this bias, you shouldn't negotiate. However, it does imply that you should be aware of your bias and take steps to overcome it. For example, if negotiating is part of the job, women may opt to link their request to the team's purpose.

Understand the culture well

Networking is beneficial in more ways than one. It can help you locate new career chances and acquire references for open positions. It might also assist you in learning more about how a potential employer operates.

If you have contacts within the organization, take advantage of their knowledge. It would be ideal if they would provide their wage range. Even if they're hesitant to discuss data, you may still get their take on the company's compensation culture.
