The topic of today's question is resumes. What is the ideal length for a resume? How many pages does a resume or curriculum vitae have?
Resumes and CVs are incredibly interesting records that have developed over time. I've been in business for 26 years, writing CVs and resumes for clients all over the world. The length of your resume or CV depends depending on your level of experience.
Here's a piece of advice for you. A one-pager is extinct. Never, ever use a one-page resume or curriculum vitae. Why is this so? Since this is going to be the distribution channel. This gives you the opportunity to sell yourself. As an executive, you cannot advertise yourself on a single website.
You also need to make sure it’s ATS (Applicant Tracking System) friendly.
Applicant Tracking System is discussed in another post, so you must know how to make it ATS friendly so that it catches the eye and the Applicant Tracking System; a one-pager would not provide you with the chance.
A resume consultant would advise you to limit your resume to two or three pages. Now, here's another piece of advice for you. Don't do two-and-a-half, two-and-a-third, or two-and-a-quarter. What message does that give to the reader? This person does not have enough information to fill three pages. Of course, you would consider your sales proposition.
Consider the stories you want to share about your performance-driven stories. Think of the keywords. Write about your group engagement as well as your education. They are all included in a resume. Now is the moment to shine.
So, for an executive resume, go to three sites. In the United States, though, there is an exception to the law. In general, they just want two pages, but you can do three somewhere else in the country. Don't listen to those who say they just want one page; it is a dead-end. We haven't seen a good one-page resume in about a year. As a result, make sure you sell yourself in two to three columns, rather than second, third, or quarter pages.
