Best Tips and Strategies to Make a Cover Letter

Your cover letter is essential, and you should submit one with your job application. So, for 2021, we've updated our cover letter and resume writing tips to help you land a job in today's daunting job market. Our step-by-step guidance will show you how to write a cover letter that will land you further interviews.

1.      Make it easy to read (and match it with your resume)

An unappealing cover letter will never get noticed, no matter how well you write or how convincing your storyline is. Here's how to ensure that yours is both readable and appealing:

·         Font: Select one of our recommended resume fonts. Set the font size to no less than 12 points. In general, business letters should appear conservative.

·         Margins: Set the margins of your cover letter to 1′′ or 11/2”. You should play with the margins based on how long or short your cover letter is. Make sure the cover letter is well-written but not swamped with words.

If the font style, sizes, and colours don't fit those on the resume, your submission could come off as unprofessional.

2.      Keep it to a single page

Time is of the essence for hiring managers. They won't read a multi-page cover letter because its length means you're a rambling, imprecise, and therefore unappealing candidate in the first place. Keep it to one page, but don't fill it to the brim.

3.      Write unique cover letters for each company

Every company has a specific challenge that it is attempting to solve by hiring. And if you're applying for the same job, customise your cover letters and resolve the issues that each organisation is facing.Don't just say you're good at your job; show you're aware of the company's objectives and how you can help in achieving them. Your cover letter will be much more convincing, and you will be perceived as a thoughtful and engaging candidate.
