Hiring managers place a strong premium on the "Work Experience" portion of your resume. After all, this tells them whether or not you have the necessary skills and qualifications for the position.
Although it appears
to be straightforward, writing your own might be difficult. If you're stumped,
consider the following suggestions for how to explain your job experience.
Cover the basics first.
For your experience
in a particular position, you first have to give the hiring manager context.
Make sure that you have the company's name, address, job title, and dates. You
can include a range of positions, whether full or part-time, as well as
temporary and contract, depending on your background and the type of jobs you
apply.
Keep the
chronological section as well. This means you simply list the last job you had
and work from there.
Next, include responsibilities and duties.
Explain for each
position what you were responsible for. Which tasks and duties did you do
daily? How many times have you done that? Why have they been significant? It
can often be useful to write down all you have done at a certain job and then
edit the list. The importance of the task, with the relevant tasks at the top,
should also be prioritized.
Don’t forget about promotions, awards, and impact.
Do more than
describe them when you list your tasks and responsibilities; quantify. This
means that hiring managers understand what you did and why it is important.
your work must be given particular importance.
For example, you
state "negotiating new contracts with the seller that have been made,
savings of 10 percent for the company, and making a more efficient ordering
process" instead of simply stating that you have "managed seller
contracts and purchased inventory." Include any promotions you received or
awards with which you have been recognized.
Writing this section can be particularly challenging if you do not have a lot of work
experience. However, you can include part-time jobs, internships, voluntary
work, etc. Even if you have jobs that are not directly linked to the sector,
you can see that you are a strong and reliable employee.
