How to Properly Include Soft Skills on your Resume?

Are you looking for a new job? You understand the importance of emphasizing your professional skills in your cover letter and resume. What are soft skills?

Soft skills are personal attributes and qualities that are needed to be competitive on the job and to work productively with others. They are unique to each person but may include skills such as communication, problem-solving, interpersonal, dependability, flexibility, and teamwork.

Hard or technical skills, on the other hand, are the basic abilities used to execute the job's day-to-day tasks. This includes things like typing speed, knowledge of specific software systems, and competence in a second language, all of which can be learned and assessed.

How should you highlight soft skills?

According to professional CV writers, employers are looking for a variety of soft skills. It is dependent on the job you are applying for and the area in which you serve.

However, addressing them is often difficult. After all, anybody can claim to be reliable and coordinated, to have a good mindset, or to collaborate well with others. However, in order to stand out, you must genuinely demonstrate it. This can be accomplished by including highlights of your soft skills in your cover letter and resume.

Where do you even begin? Choose one or two soft skills that are particularly pertinent to the work you're applying for and share a story about them in your cover letter. For example, if you want to emphasize your communication and presenting skills, you might say:

“As a project manager, it is my duty to educate staff on how to use ABC tools, which, when used properly, will result in better teamwork and more efficient project monitoring. Since taking over this role, I've worked to restructure the presentations in order to achieve positive results and increase participation. As a result, there has been a 23% growth in the number of programs completed successfully on schedule and under budget.”

Have a bullet point on your resume, such as:

  • Delivered monthly ABC project management software training presentations to both junior and senior staff, resulting in 23% more work performed on schedule and under budget.

Most applicants lack soft skills when drafting cover letters and applications. However, they are important for employers. So, not only include them in your cover letter and resume but also say a tale about them and connect them to quantifiable accomplishments whenever possible.
